What is a Doberge layer cake?

Doberge is a multi-layered luxury celebration cake for birthdays, special occasions and events. Hailing from the foodies paradise of New Orleans, it's quite unlike anything you've ever tasted. 

Doberge cake features six layers of the softest, fluffiest buttermilk sponge, with lusciously flavoured, custard-like fillings called "puddings". All coated in a light, creamy Swiss Meringue buttercream and a delicate poured fondant (like Fondant Fancies!) or Belgian chocolate ganache.

Its extraordinary, melt-in-the-mouth flavour and distinctive, elegant style creates a real talking point with your guests, making your special occasion unique and unforgettable.

Doberge layer cakes are a true labour of love as each and every element is hand-crafted over a period of eight hours, but with Dizzi Cakes you don't have to lift a finger - just a slice!

why is Doberge cake so special?

The sponge layers in a Doberge cake are made using buttermilk, giving it a distinctively soft, velvety structure and texture. The fillings are cooked curd or custard-like bases, enriched with the yolkes of six eggs and featuring fun and popular flavour combinations.

The multi-layered cake is coated in a delicate veil of meringue buttercream and encased in either a delicious poured fondant or decadent Belgian chocolate ganache. The result is a unique, show-stopping celebration cake that is light enough to enjoy with a glass of bubbly!

We use only the best quality, natural ingredients and always avoid artificial flavourings. For example, our Lemon Doberge contains the zest and juice of six organic lemons. Our chocolate ganache featured on many of our cakes is made using the finest Belgian Callebaut chocolate.

Each of our Doberge layer cakes is made to order in our 5* Food Hygiene-rated home kitchen in East Sussex, and delivered direct to you. All of our fillings are cooked, set and chilled here, and our Swiss Meringue buttercreams, ganache and poured fondant are all made from scratch.
